Apple Compote

applecompote_post2 If you are anything like me, you cannot resist marked down fruit or vegetable. When I see a kilogram of apples marked down to a dollar, I have to have them. Making fruit compote is the best way to make use of excess fruit or fruit that is not good enough to be eaten whole. It’s so easy as well! You literally chop everything up and chuck them into a pot.

Apple compote is lovely coming into the colder months. It’s comforting and very versatile. I especially like mine in my morning oatmeal or with some yogurt. You could also go a step furthur and use it in muffins, crumbles and pancakes.applecompote_post1

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 1 hour

Total Time: 1 hour, 10 minutes

Apple Compote

Ingredients

  • 8 apples (any breed)
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1-2 tablespoons maple syrup (optional and to taste)

Instructions

  1. Chop apples into thumbnail size chunks.
  2. Add to a pot with water.
  3. Stew on low heat for an hour.
  4. Add cinnamon and maple syrup to taste.
